Eugenio Suarez's attempt to catch the bat of teammate Wilyer Abreu after Abreu flipped it high in the air on a go-ahead, Team Venezuela home run in a World Baseball Classic quarterfinal against Japan left many Cincinnati Reds' fans wincing, hoping Suarez would avoid injury trying to field with bare hands a bat hurtling toward the ground.

MLB shared video via Twitter/X of Suarez trying to land the bat as Abreu and his teammates celebrated, with the caption, "Eugenio Suarez trying to catch the bat.," with a "rolling on the floor laughing" emoji.

Suarez's hands appeared to be fine as he put them in the air for a high-10 from Abreu after Abreu crossed home plate to give Venezuela a 7-5 lead in the 6th inning.

Venezuela advanced to the semifinals with an 8-5 win.

Suarez recently addressed the fear Latin American players have felt from Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
