Evan Morton was the best freshman in the PSAC who blossomed for East Stroudsburg men's basketball last season. Now, he's going to try his hand at the Division I level as Morton will play for UMBC next season.

Morton, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound guard from North Carolina, averaged 13.9 points, 3.0 assists and 1.3 steals per game for East Stroudsburg. He was also named the PSAC East Freshman of the Year.

After injuries to Davon Lee and Christian Pierre-Louis, Morton was thrust into the starting lineup and had to adjust on the fly, both to the PSAC and Jeff Wilson's complex and fast-paced systems. It worked for ESU as the Warriors finished 21-9 and 15-6 in conference play.

While his departure leaves a hole for Wilson to fill for next season, East Stroudsburg — as they usually do — have depth to soften the blow. The team should see the return of Lee and Pierre-Louis after their season-ending injuries, and two other freshmen, Terrell Pitts and Jaden Kelly, saw significant time last season.

There's also sharpshooter Ethan Millirons, who shot a scorching 45% on 3-pointers last season, which was second in the PSAC. ESU's style has long since incorporated an arsenal of guards - its necessary for how fast they play. They had to replace Jaelen McGlone and Tyshawn Trail two years ago, and they'll have to replace Morton now.

University of Maryland, Baltimore County, more commonly known as UMBC, finished 13-19 during the 2024-25 season, including 5-11 in the America East Conference. The Retrievers were one of the highest-scoring teams in the conference, but also had one of the poorest defenses as well.
