ESPN is looking to capitalize on the women’s sports boom and now it’s leading to the Worldwide Leader in Sports to shift its sports media programming schedule with ‘Women’s Sports Sundays.’

For years, MLB has held down ESPN’s Sunday night slate of event. However, ESPN has a different plan in place moving forward with its expansion into women’s sports.

On Thursday, ESPN dropped a press release launching ‘Women’s Sports Sundays’ as a way to showcase primetime sporting events. The network has big plans to highlight major WNBA and NWSL matchups.

ESPN will aim to push its other women’s sports properties like tennis majors and other events starting this summer.

However, ESPN has featured WNBA games for years, but with the rise of stars like Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese and Chelsea Gray it’s clear that the network wants to capitalize on the league’s growth.

“Women’s sports are experiencing continued momentum, and Women’s Sports Sundays is ESPN’s next step in meeting that demand,” said Rosalyn Durant, ESPN executive vice president for programming & acquisitions.

Meanwhile, NWSL has seen its own growth with top American stars such as Trinity Rodman lighting up the pitch. But, ESPN may piggyback off the FIFA World Cup in America despite Fox having the rights to the men’s tournament.
