LeBron James has left the Los Angeles Lakers. The 41-year-old future Hall of Famer let the franchise know he will not be re-signing with it in free agency on Tuesday morning, just hours before the official start of NBA free agency.
He still hasn't decided which team he will sign with, although he will almost certainly continue to play in the NBA this fall for a 24th season. The Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers and perhaps the Miami Heat and Philadelphia 76ers are thought to be the teams with a real shot at landing him.
His son, Bronny, is still a member of the Lakers, and the 21-year-old guard's contract is now guaranteed for the upcoming season. According to Dave McMenamin of ESPN, the Lakers could make a move with the younger James, and he strongly implied that the move could be to reunite the younger James with his famous father on the latter's next team.
The younger James didn't make any sizable strides this past season, his second in the NBA, but he did get meaningful playing time late in the regular season after Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves went down with injuries. In the last six games of the schedule, he averaged 7.2 points in 17.2 minutes a game while shooting 47.2% from the field and 42.9% from 3-point range.
The jury is still out on whether he will ever be worthy of a spot in the regular rotation of an NBA team.

"LeBron has spoken at length about how meaningful it has been to be teammates with his son, and those feelings only grew late last season when they shared the court in competitive games," McMenamin wrote.
"... It's easy to think the James family would want that connection to continue.
"... Once LeBron makes his decision on his next team, there could be a subsequent move made with Bronny."
