After more than a decade of working as an analyst for ESPN, Ryan Clark was fired from the network on July 20. He commented during the majority of NFL Live, but was not there for the final segment after reportedly finding out he had been let go from the network while the show was on air.
The following day, Clark took to Instagram and briefly addressed the situation. He shared footage of himself exercising in the gym, along with his workout plan.
“Proof of Life… Before the madness of yesterday, I woke up, got in my Tundra, drove to Planet Fitness, and got to work,” Clark captioned the post. “The rest of the day was eventful, but the journey continues. My peace is with God, and my humility comes from within. I’ll continue to build myself so the world can never strip me of what’s real. Get moving today y’all!”
Per The Atlantic, Clark was reportedly not supposed to learn that he was laid off until July 21, but when media questions began flooding in, there were fears the news would leak before he was told. This led higher-ups to inform him of the decision during the Monday night broadcast, with Clark reportedly opting not to return to the show when he heard the news.
The outlet also reported that Clark was supposed to be a “large part” of ESPN’s 2027 Super Bowl coverage before the decision was made to let him go. The big game will be broadcast on ESPN for the first time next year (while also airing on ABC.)

Clark played in the NFL for 13 seasons before retiring in 2014. He joined ESPN the following year. In addition to working on NFL Live, he’s also appeared on SportsCenter, Get Up!, and First Take. The former pro athlete even won Outstanding Personality/Studio Analyst at the Sports Emmy Awards in 2023.
