England Starting XI vs Norway: Predicted Lineup and Confirmed Team News

England vs Norway: World Cup quarter-final selection concerns and suspension risks

England head into Saturday’s World Cup quarter-final against Norway with a semi-final place on the line and a handful of major selection issues for Thomas Tuchel to weigh up in Miami.

There is a fresh wrinkle in the disciplinary picture at this tournament, with FIFA’s expanded format bringing a change to the yellow card rules. Bookings have already been wiped once after the group stage and they will be cleared again after the quarter-finals. That leaves Jude Bellingham, Declan Rice, Marc Guehi and Nico O’Reilly walking a fine line. If any of that quartet are booked against Norway and England go through, they will miss the semi-final.

England squad fitness latest

England trained on Wednesday at their Kansas City base, with 22 members of the 26-man squad involved at Swope Soccer Village. There were, however, a few notable absentees from the main session.

Jordan Henderson has returned to the team hotel after surgery on the arm injury he suffered in the aftermath of the 3-2 win over Mexico. He is not expected to play any further part in the tournament, but remains with the squad.

Reece James, Guehi and Rice also sat out full training, following individual programmes instead. James is still working his way back from the hamstring issue that has already ruled him out of matches against Panama, DR Congo and Mexico.

Tuchel facing key selection calls

Tuchel has some important decisions to make, particularly in the wide areas, after England’s encouraging display against Mexico. Anthony Gordon did his chances no harm on the left, while Bukayo Saka also impressed and looks well placed to keep his spot.

The likely shape remains a 4-2-3-1, with Harry Kane leading the line and Bellingham operating behind him. Much may depend on the fitness of James and Guehi, especially with Jarell Quansah suspended.

Predicted England XI vs Norway

Pickford; Spence, Konsa, Guehi, O’Reilly; Anderson, Rice; Saka, Bellingham, Gordon; Kane.

England know the challenge Norway will bring, but they also know the prize. A place in the last four is within touching distance, even if the path there comes with a few nervous glances towards the referee’s notebook.

Match details

England vs Norway kicks off at 10pm BST on Saturday July 12, 2026, at Miami Stadium in Miami, Florida.
