Gateshead have reappointed Rob Elliot as manager as the National League's bottom side try to rescue their season.

The 39-year-old replaces Alun Armstrong, who has been moved to a new role as head of football development, allowing Elliot to try and arrest a run of 11 straight defeats in all competitions.

Elliot was previously appointed manager in October 2023 and led Gateshead to a sixth-placed finish in the National League and FA Trophy glory, before he joined Crawley Town as boss three months into the 2024-25 campaign.

"The board of directors are now looking towards strengthening our squad in order to improve our squad and work towards achieving safety in the National League," club chairman Brian McWilliams told the club website.

"Works are also at an advanced stage on other key appointments as we move to improve the club's situation."

Gateshead last won in the league in September and travel to Tamworth on Saturday (15:00 GMT).
