Elkhart soccer posts two shurout wins

The Elkhart boys soccer team won twice at the Elkhart Shootout on Saturday, beating Griffith 6-0 and Hanover Central 2-0.

In the first game, Thomas Bravo led the way for the Lions with a goal and two assists, while Karter Lopez recorded the shutout in goal

Isaac Alvarado and Robert Rojas scored against Hanover Central, with Lopez again pitching a shutout.

In other action, Yurem Castro and Victor Vergara each scored a goal as Concord defeated Homestead 2-0.

Zane Parson had two goals and an assist, while teammate Orion Nice also scored twice, as Bethany Christian beat Lakeland Christian 4-0.

Goshen got goals from four different players as the RedHawks improved to 2-0 with a 4-1 victory over Westview.

Bentley Medina and Caleb Cervantes each had a goal and an assist for Goshen.

NorthWood won the NorthWood Invitational, beating Bremen 2-1 in the first game and Merrillville 1-0 in the title game.

Jager Bute, Kyler Fike and Tyler Frye each had a goal for the Panthers.

Edwardsburg won two shootouts to claim the title in the David Ni Shootout.

Mobius Stubblefield had a goal and an assist against Plymouth Christian in the first game, which ended in a 2-2 tie. Austin leak scored in a 1-1 tie with Kalamazoo Central in the second tame.

In girls soccer, Emma Martin and Elliott DiPiro each scored four goals, while Kylie Wiegand had a goal and two assists, as Jimtown beat Bethany Christian 9-1.

Concord got two goals from Brynn Weirich to lead the Minutmen to a 4-0 win over South Bend Trinty.

Jessica Cruz scored twice for Elkhart, as the Lions beat Angola, 4-0. Mya Doot and Lydia LeCount also scored for the Lions.

In volleyball action, Concord reached the championship match of the LaPorte Tournament, before losing to Franklin High.

The Minutemen beat Merrillville, Kankakee Valley and LaPorte in straight sets, before losing to Franklin, 25-24 and 25-17.

Claire Campanello had a big day for Concord with 63 assists, nine aces, 17 kills and 34 digs.

Edwardsburg went 6-0 on Friday to win the title at the Gull Lake Invitational in Battle Creek.

Sarah Pippin had a huge day for the Eddies with 68 kills and 14 aces, while teammate Kylie Rosenkrantz totaled 116 assists.

Northridge won the West Noble Tournament with a 3-1 record, beating Leo, Fort Wayne Luers and West Noble, while losing to Heritage.

Alli Steele had a big day for the Raiders with 34 kills and four blocks, while Izzy Melfin had 61 assists and 33 digs.

Penn won the Tom Heck Invitational on its home court, beating Carroll, Hammond Noll, Munster and Elkhart.

Anna McCullough led the way for the Kingsmen with 26 kills, while teammate Carson Petty had 45 assists.

NorthWood was 2-2 at the same tournament, beating Andrean and Hammond Noll, but losing to Elkhart and Homestead.

Ella Branham topped NorthWood with 42 kills and five aces, while senior setter Emily Uhlmann had 102 assists.

At the Elkhart Christian Hokum Karem, the Concord boys were the team champion, led by the team of seniors Jaxson Meyer and Jack Yoder.

The Minutemen's four two-man teams finished with a time of 1:36.22. Goshen was right behind with a 1:36.26.

West Noble won the girls race, with Goshen second and NorthWood third.

At the NIC Stomp boys race, Penn cruised to the title with 42 points, while South Bend St. Joseph was second with 83. Elkhart finished seventh with 188.

Max Howk of Adams was the individual winner.
