Jun. 30—SIOUX FALLS — Mitchell golfers Anna Eliason and Asher Dannenbring turned in the top performances among area competitors at the South Dakota Golf Association Sanford International Series, held Monday and Tuesday, June 29-30.

The two-round event was played at Prairie Green Golf Course on Monday before concluding Tuesday at Willow Run Golf Course in Sioux Falls.

Eliason, a rising senior at Mitchell High School, climbed one spot on the leaderboard during the final round to finish fifth in the girls division with a two-day total of 158. After opening the tournament with an 82 at Prairie Green, Eliason responded with a 6-over-par 76 on Willow Run's par-70 layout, improving by six strokes from her first-round score.

The strong closing round left Eliason just one stroke shy of a three-way tie for second place. Sioux Falls' Stella Smith, Flandreau's Tori Peterson and Dakota Dunes' Katie Betsworth each finished at 157, while Sioux Falls' Ari Jacobs captured the tournament title with a two-round score of 155 after rounds of 74 and 81, respectively.

Eliason's final round featured a 4-over-par 38 on the front nine before she matched that score with another 38 on the back. Her closing nine included two birdies, two bogeys and one double bogey, allowing her to move past Watertown's Gabi Olson and secure fifth place in the final standings.

Among other area golfers, Chamberlain's Trey Speer placed 11th with a 166 total, while Mitchell's Mia Larson finished 17th after recording a two-round score of 175.

Dannenbring made one of the tournament's biggest moves up the boys leaderboard. The rising Mitchell senior jumped 10 spots from 16th after the opening round into a tie for sixth place with Crooks' Nick Simon after finishing with a 151 total. Dannenbring opened with a 78 on Monday before shaving five strokes off his score in the final round, carding a 3-over-par 73 at Willow Run.

Crooks' Drew Simon claimed the boys championship with a two-round total of 144 after rounds of 70 and 74. Brandon's Will Peterson finished second at 145, while Twin Brooks' Jonathan DeBoer placed third with 149. Elk Point's Ben Akin and Sioux Falls' Carter Peterson shared fourth place at 150, one stroke ahead of Dannenbring and Simon.

Other area boys competitors included Parkston's Landon Weber, who tied for 21st with a 156 after matching rounds of 78, while Mount Vernon's Trysten Eide finished 48th with a 169 total following rounds of 85 and 84.

Dannenbring, who won earlier this season in the series, is tied for the boys series lead with 100 points with Sioux Falls' Trevor Rick. The girls points lead is held by Kaitlin Strain, of Rapid City, who has 170 points, with Ari Jacobs in second with 100 points.

Two regular-season Sanford International Series stops remain, with the next stop on July 6-7 playing at Moccasin Creek Golf Course and Lee Park Golf Course in Aberdeen. The series will play in Spearfish on July 15-16 before the series championship on July 20 at Sutton Bay Golf Course in Agar.
