El Paso got off to a silver start at the UIL State Track and Field Championships, with Clint's Matthew Portillo and Andress' Jordan Owens each taking silver in the Class 4A pole vault and Class 5A long jump respectively.

The three-day state championships featured 4A athletes competing at Mike Myers Stadium on Thursday, May 14, 5A on May 15 and 6A on the final day of the meet, Saturday, May 16. Overall El Paso had 11 individuals and three relays competing.

Thursday results

  • Matthew Portillo, Clint, 2nd in pole vault, 13-9
  • Emmanuel Navarette, Clint, 6th in 110 hurdles, 14.75
  • Alexia Martinez, Fabens, 9th in 800, 2:31.69

Friday

  • Tanner Ragan, El Dorado, 8th in shot put, 52-6.75
  • Jordan Owens, Andress, 2nd in long jump, 23-8 1/2
  • Gianna Gulley, Andress,6th in long jump, 18-5 1/2
  • Chapin girls 4x100 relay of Ambrielle Buckley, Sianna Butler, Aahniyah Clayton and Laurin Gardner, 7th in 46.45
  • Laurin Gardner, 6th in 100 in 11.63
  • Ky-Ri Bonner, Hanks, 3rd in 400 in 47.32
  • Canutillo boys 4x400 meter relay of Giovanni Vaquera, Adrian Lopez, Shane Christiansen and David Rivas 3rd in 3:15.62.

El Paso Class 6A results​


Saturday

  • Emily Orr, Franklin, 3,200
  • Noah Garcia, Eastwood, 3,200
  • Tyson Cotchery, Franklin, 400
  • Franklin girls 4x400 of Sumaya Chavez, Chloe Rains, Samaya Scranton and McKenzie Martin Collins.
