Eileen Gu will leave Italy with another gold medal after she defended her title in women's halfpipe at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Gu, 22, took gold in her final event at Livigno Snow Park on Sunday, Feb. 22, bringing her Milan Cortina medal count up to three. Her teammate, Li Fanghui, won silver in the event, while Zoe Atkin of Great Britain took the bronze.
“Every day I was fighting," Gu, who was born and raised in the U.S. but competes for China. told reporters after winning gold. "I gave my all every single day that I’ve been here, and that’s no joke."

Gu said she "showcased my best skiing" in all three of her events at the 2026 Games, adding, "and as far as performance goes, that’s all I can ask for — to be able to show the world the best that women’s skiing has to offer at the moment that it really counts."
As the most decorated freeskier in Olympic history of either sex, Gu says she loves "the records so much" because "it's not about man or woman."
"I’m the most decorated freeskier of all time, male or female," she continued. "I have the most gold medals ever, male or female. That’s a testament to competitive strength, it’s mental strength. It’s being able to perform under pressure, it has nothing to [do with] if you’re a boy or a girl."
Gu said she feels that she's "able to lead the way and pioneer the sport" through her success, and although she "never imagined" having that opportunity, she's "really honored and proud that I have."

The Team China star also revealed what she journaled about earlier in the day.
"I wrote about self-belief. The form that it took is love of the sport and pouring myself into the sport. Having the run of my life is the way that I put it. It’s representing my life and my life’s work to the world at the moment that it counts."
Gu went viral earlier in the Games when she clapped back at a reporter who asked if her silver medal win in the freeski slopestyle event on Feb. 16 was a disappointment.
“I’m the most decorated female freeskier in history. I think that’s an answer in and of itself,” said Gu, who laughed loudly before answering. “How do I say this? Winning a medal at the Olympics is a life-changing experience for every athlete. Doing it five times is exponentially harder.”
Gu continued, “The two medals lost situation, to be quite frank with you, I think is kind of a ridiculous perspective to take. I’m showcasing my best skiing,” she said. “I’m doing things that quite literally have never been done before and so I think that is more than good enough, but thank you.”
