GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) -- East Carolina's fall camp is officially underway as they went through their first practice Wednesday morning.
Coach Black Harrell and the Pirates are returning four positional starters and three special teams members from last year's squad.
ECU also has many new assistant coaches on the sidelines including offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Jordan David, defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Jordan Hankins, running backs coach Julian Griffin, and offensive line coach and run game coordinator Alex Huettell.
The Pirates wore shorts and helmets for today's practice and won't be in full gear until August 11 per NCAA rules.
Coach Harrell said that today was about building a foundation to help build the team up going into the season.
"I told our players last night we're going to make camp tough as everybody in the country is," Harrell said. "So you learn how to handle adversity, but you got to keep pushing away comfort because at some point in camp, comfort can slot in, and it can cripple you."
The Pirates open up their 2026 campaign on the road against Alabama on Sept. 5 at noon.
