No. 3 seed East Carolina (36-22-1) will open play in the NCAA Tournament Chapel Hill Regional on Friday. The Pirates will face No. 2 seed Tennessee (38-20) at Boshamer Stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
First pitch between the Vols and Pirates is scheduled for noon EDT (ESPNU).
East Carolina enters the NCAA Tournament with the No. 40 overall RPI nationally. The Pirates also have the No. 42 strength of schedule, No. 59 nonconference RPI and No. 38 nonconference strength of schedule, according to D1Baseball.
East Carolina also has a 3-7-1 record in Quadrant 1 games. The Pirates are 6-5 in Quadrant 2 contests, while going 18-8 in Quadrant 3 games and 9-2 in Quadrant 4 matchups.
Senior outfielder Jack Herring leads East Carolina in batting average (.358) and RBIs (51) entering regional play. Redshirt sophomore outfielder Davin Whitaker and Herring lead the Pirates home runs (nine).
Freshman Grady Lenahan has stolen 11-of-12 bases to lead East Carolina, while infielder and outfielder Braden Burress has recorded 10 stolen bases in 13 attempts.
The Pirates have recorded a .297 team batting average, .450 slugging percentage, .397 on-base percentage and 56 home runs, 387 RBIs, 424 runs and 42 stolen bases in 58 attempts.
Ethan Norby (7-3) leads East Carolina in strikeouts (120) and innings pitched (82.2) ahead of the Chapel Hill Regional. He has also recorded one save in 16 appearances (14 starts) and a 4.20 ERA.
East Carolina has a team ERA of 4.30.
