On Thursday, the Eagles signed Payton to his four-year rookie contract, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter:

There's nothing surprising about this, but it does potentially continue the Eagles down a path of having one-too-many QBs.
They have Jalen Hurts starting of course, and they also have Tanner McKee and Andy Dalton. The Payton draft pick will lead to speculation about a McKee trade.
Payton is a 6-foot-3, 233-pound lefty with impressive mobility.
In the 2025 season for NDSU, Payton had 2,719 passing yards and 16 touchdowns with only four interceptions. He also ran 136 times for 777 yards and 13 more TDs.
The Associated Press named Payton its second-team All-American QB for the FCS ranks.
Payton certainly seems like he'll eventually be able to help the Eagles, even if it's just in specialty packages. And his journey starts now to try and make a case for himself.
