We watched years of Andy Reid, Jim Schwartz, and Howie Roseman's negligence in building the Philadelphia Eagles' linebacker corps. Somewhere in football heaven, Buddy Ryan is smiling. It's hard to find many issues with the guys on Vic Fangio's unit now.
Zack Baun is already one of the best free-agent signings we've seen Howie Roseman make. Nakobe Dean is phenomenal when healthy. Jeremiah Trotter Jr. waits in the wings. Smael Monodon is an exciting player with tremendous upside. Then, there's Jihaad Campbell, a 2025 first-round selection who broke a long, long jinx.
Yes, Nolan Smith is listed as an outside linebacker, but do we view him as one? Come on. Let's be honest. He's an edge rusher. Technically, he broke a long Eagles jinx, but we'll give Jihaad Campbell more credit for doing so.
The Eagles drafted Campbell 31st overall during the 2025 NFL Draft. He's the first first-round linebacker the organization has drafted since 1979, Jerry Robinson. Recently, he earned a nice mention from the stat gurus at Pro Football Focus.
PFF recently shared its list of 2026 breakout candidates for every NFL team. Campbell earned the nod as the choice for Philadelphia. Dalton Wasserman is the writer of this one. He offered the following as his defense for tipping his cap to Philadelphia's talented youngster.
Philadelphia didn't have to rely on Campbell much, thanks to the newfound depth at linebacker. Zack Baun and Nakobe Dean are excellent. It's hard to take those guys off the field, and once Nolan Smith was healthy and ready to go, most of the snaps the rookie received at edge rusher were given back to the starter.
Campbell's role could increase in 2026 regardless of what transpires with Nakobe Dean. The goal is to get the best players on the field, and this is a phenomenal talent. We'd have to agree with PFF about his breakout potential.

"Campbell got his opportunity to start in the absence of Nakobe Dean early in the season and performed very well. His playing time diminished when Dean returned, but Dean is set to be a free agent this offseason. Across his 10 starts, Campbell earned an excellent 82.1 PFF overall grade while missing just four tackles. He should soon become a mainstay in the Eagles’ defense alongside Zack Baun."
