Philadelphia has gone from uncertainty at cornerback to being absolutely loaded after landing Seahawks cornerback Riq Woolen on a one-year deal worth up to $15 million. The Eagles' revamped defense will give some of the top passing offenses a run for their money, matching up very effectively with outside pass catchers and in the slot. All three players offer positional versatility, setting Vic Fangio up to focus on his best and most efficient matchups week in and week out, as Woolen played all over the field in 2025 for Seattle.

Via NextGenStats: 382 snaps at left CB, 376 at right CB, 14 snaps at slot. Among CBs targeted at least 50 times, Woolen allowed the 6th lowest completion % (49.2) last season per Next Gen Stats.

The outside CB2 position opposite the All-Pro Quinyon Mitchell was the weak link for the Eagles' secondary last season, as Adoree' Jackson struggled, earning a 54.1 PFF coverage grade while being targeted on 18% of his coverage snaps, the third-highest rate among cornerbacks with at least 400 coverage snaps this past season. That'll change with Woolen, who is brash, confident, and physical at the point of attack.

Riq Woolen allowed just 0.5 yards per coverage snap in man coverage last season, the fewest among outside cornerbacks.

Woolen also forced a 31.3% completion rate playing man in 2025, the lowest among players at his position.@Eagles | #FlyEaglesFlyhttps://t.co/ivWpUYdzK7pic.twitter.com/RkVAXIImrp

Woolen allowed just 46 yards in coverage playing man last season, allowing Fangio to play less zone coverage, thus putting even more pressure on opposing quarterbacks without having to blitz regularly.

Looked at some of new #Eagles DB Riq Woolen's matchups with other top NFC East WRs over the years, starting w/CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens.

Played them both in 2023. Woolen and Pickens (w/Steelers) only matched up twice when targeted, Woolen was there on both targets and 1 PBU… pic.twitter.com/o5WuV0OIbn

There will be discussions about which team has the best cornerback unit, but there's no doubt that Woolen, Quinyon Mitchell, and Cooper DeJean are at the top of the list.
