PHILADELPHIA − Jalen Carter isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
That's because the Eagles signed their star defensive tackle to a four-year contract, reportedly worth as much as $160 million, making him the highest-paid defensive tackle in NFL history. The deal is for $152 million. At an average annual value of $38 million per season, Carter's deal outdoes the previous record holder, Jeffery Simmons of the Titans, whose deal has an AAV of $35 million.

Carter is entering his fourth season since the Eagles made him their first-round pick (No. 9 overall) in 2023. He has been a difference-maker ever since his rookie year, being selected to the Pro Bowl in each of the last two seasons.
But Carter struggled through injuries to both shoulders last season, playing in 11 games with just 3 sacks. Carter had a procedure done (Eagles didn't call it surgery) late last season. He missed four of the final five regular season games, but returned for the playoff game against the 49ers.
Carter became eligible for a contract extension this past spring. When none was forthcoming, the Eagles picked up Carter's fifth-year option, guaranteeing Carter $27 million for the 2027 season. With the new contract, the Eagles can spread out that salary cap hit, while also giving him an extension that lasts through the 2031 season.
The Eagles report to training camp on July 28 and have their first practice on July 29.
