An under-the-radar bit of information from Thursday was that special teams coordinator Michael Clay's contract is up, and the Eagles were allowing him to look around. Clay actually interviewed in Tampa on Thursday, the team announced.
Nowadays, after that interview, Ian Rapoport reports that Howie Roseman and Clay have agreed on a new deal that'll keep him in Philadelphia for the foreseeable future. Clay has been the Eagles' special teams coordinator for the past five seasons, helping the team advance to two Super Bowls in that span. After signing an extension following the 2023 season, Philadelphia ranked in the top 10 in 10 separate special teams categories. That year, the Eagles ranked first in special teams DVOA, had the NFL's fifth-highest grade by Pro Football Focus, and were 10th in Rick Gosselin's annual composite rankings of special teams output.
Last year, Clay's unit played a major role in the team's postseason run to Super Bowl LIX victory. Kicker Jake Elliott set a Super Bowl record with 16 kicking points and set franchise records for most points (43), made kicks (23), and field goals (10) during a single postseason.
Clay is currently in his second coaching stint with the Eagles. He began his coaching career as a defensive quality control coach with the team in 2014. A year later, he transitioned to the assistant special teams coach role. Clay then spent five seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, serving as an assistant special teams coach for four of those years.

The #Eagles and special teams coach Michael Clay have agreed to terms on a new deal for him to return to Philly, per me and @MikeGarafolo.
One of the more coveted ST coaches around, Clay drew significant interest around the league. But he elected to remain home. pic.twitter.com/lTyKegDVLR
