The Michigan basketball vs. Michigan State rivalry is never without hostility and extracurriculars, and it appears that the most recent iteration hasn't departed from that formula.

In the aftermath of Friday night's Wolverines' 83-71 win over the Spartans, there have been questions about MSU players (namely guard Jeremy Fears Jr.) and his style of play, while many Spartan faithful have questions about Michigan adding players from the transfer portal (for some reason).

Only one of the concerns is valid, and there has been a lot of evidence to surface about Fears in the aftermath of Friday. And on Monday, May addressed the elephant in the room.

"Appeared? It was an illusion, right?" May said. "I think there are several plays that are very dangerous. And I am incredibly proud of our guys for the responses they had to some of those situations. Incredibly proud for their self-control, their restraint, and their impulse control. I'll leave it at that. But they're not isolated incidents."

Dusty May was asked today about a play where Jeremy Fears Jr. appeared to trip Yaxel Lendeborg. “Appeared?” he asked.

Said there are “several plays that are very dangerous” from the game and “the film’s there. 40 minutes of it. It’s not hard to find.”

Further pressed, May noted that if you're looking for Fears' play to cross the line, it's quite easy to find it.

"The film's there, 40 minutes of it. It's not hard to find."

Michigan won the first of two meetings against the Spartans, the most lopsided road victory over MSU since 1997. In the immediate aftermath, Tom Izzo mostly complained about the officiating as well as his team not playing up to his standard. That also helped spark conspiracy theories from MSU fans about why there was a very brief handshake between Izzo and May -- though Izzo laughed off the conspiracy element.

"I have no interest in talking to my rival. You know? Some guys, I don’t.

“I mean, it was not a (blow-by), it was a handshake," Izzo said. "Walk by. It was a handshake. It was probably no different than the one last year, if you really got right down to it. So, jeez, they’re 20-1 or whatever they are, and we’re 19-3, or whatever we are. There should be a lot bigger things to get into."

And before MSU fans get all up in arms about May's comments about Fears, Izzo also noted that yes, he spoke to his player about some things that were into touch.

“There were some things Jeremy did, I addressed on it,” Izzo said. “Him and their point guard (Cadeau) were going at it pretty good, that’s what happens in games like this. If anybody did anything dirty, tell him to call me, and I would be more than happy to address it. If it was physical play, that’s the way that game’s always going to be.”

The second meeting of the two rivals in Ann Arbor to close out the regular season in March is going to be something to behold.
