Duke forward Nik Khamenia will reportedly enter the transfer portal, marking the second Blue Devil in as many days after guard Darren Harris made the same announcement on Tuesday. These moves are the first of several potential offseason roster changes for Jon Scheyer’s team.

The former five-star and top-15 recruit in the class of 2025 played a key role for the Blue Devils in his freshman season, during which he averaged 5.7 points and 3.3 rebounds in nearly 20 minutes per game. Khamenia's season never gathered the momentum expected of him, but after a slow start to the NCAA Tournament, he finished strong in Duke's Elite Eight loss to UConn.

Khamenia is expected to draw significant interest in the transfer portal, according to Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress, who first reported the decision.

While Khamenia's role was important for the Blue Devils, it was also smaller than he and fans expected, given his recruitment profile.

A pathway to an increased role at Duke was difficult to imagine, even with Cameron Boozer and Isaiah Evans likely heading to the NBA Draft. The Blue Devils are welcoming five-star recruit Bryson Howard to the team this season and are expected to explore the transfer portal in hopes of adding upperclass talent. That's not even to mention the potential return of Dame Sarr.

There simply wasn't an opportunity for Khamenia at Duke, but there are surely many teams that would be happy to welcome such a highly touted player.
