Drew Allar Stats and Highlights: Everything to Know About the Steelers Rookie’s Dominant NFL Preseason Debut
The Pittsburgh Steelers have Aaron Rodgers, but only for one more season before he retires. With the future of the quarterback situation unclear in Pittsburgh, the Steelers brought in Drew Allar in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Allar showed out in his first NFL preseason action as Pittsburgh cruised to a victory over the Green Bay Packers.
Drew Allar’s Sparkling Performance
Allar was outstanding for the Steelers as they beat the Packers 28-9. The Steelers didn’t start much of their starting offense, giving others the opportunity to shine.
Mason Rudolph started the game under center for Pittsburgh, and Allar got his chance later in the game. He played all of the second half except for one offensive drive.
The story of the game was Allar. He racked up three total touchdowns, two passing and one rushing, threw for 153 yards, and completed 10 of his 13 pass attempts.

The Steelers rookie was the only quarterback to find the end zone through the air or on the ground.
Will Howard capped a two-minute drill at the end of the first half with an 8-play, 80-yard touchdown drive, setting up Lew Nichols’ 1-yard score. Allar took over from there, and each of his three second-half possessions ended in the end zone.
The biggest play of Allar’s day was his first pass of the day that went for 74 yards. Allar found Kaden Wetjen over the middle of the field, and Wetjen turned on the jets to get away from tacklers until he was tackled just short of the goal line, where Allar punched it in himself.
Allar missed a majority of his final college football season with an injury. But he looked healthy in training camp and left no doubt about himself through his performance against Green Bay.
Allar has now played his way into a must-watch quarterback in the preseason. He looked like a poised signal-caller who wasn’t only getting his first NFL action. Of course, it’s only preseason, but Allar left plenty of reason for optimism about his future in Pittsburgh.
Rodgers is certainly the starter, but after that, the remaining depth chart could go anywhere. Rudolph is the likely backup, but Allar may have played his way ahead of Howard on the depth chart.
If Allar can string some more performances like this in the preseason, it’s going to change how the future of the Pittsburgh QB position may look, and he could earn his chance down the road to be the guy.
