Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green was scratched with low back soreness Sunday minutes before tipoff against the Denver Nuggets at Chase Center. Green was set to start his sixth consecutive game at center alongside Pat Spencer, De'Anthony Melton, Moses Moody and Gui Santos.
Al Horford started at center Sunday in place of Green, who didn't score Thursday (going 0-of-7 shooting) in 19 minutes of an 11-point loss to the Boston Celtics. Green is averaging 8.4 points (on 40.9% shooting overall and 32% 3-point shooting), with 5.7 rebounds and 5.1 assists in 47 games amid dwindling effectiveness in his 14th season.
"We know what Draymond is capable of," head coach Steve Kerr said pregame. "We know too that as you get older, it's tougher to do it every night. … In his prime, you could count on him every single night. You get older, it just doesn't work that way."
Green joined big man Kristaps Porzingis (illness) as gameday scratches for Golden State.
