What a difference a year makes.

Last season, the Pittsburgh Pirates had the worst offense in baseball, ranking last in the Major Leagues in runs, home runs and OPS.

That was especially true early in the season, as the 2025 Pirates entered June averaging just 3.2 runs per game.

After beefing up its lineup over the winter, however, Pittsburgh now boasts one of the best offenses in baseball.

This year, the Pirates enter June averaging a whopping 5.0 runs per game. They're one of only five MLB teams with at least 300 runs scored and five runs per game this season, joining the Washington Nationals, Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees.

That's some impressive company, as the Braves, Dodgers and Yankees have the three highest win totals in baseball.

Led by newcomers Brandon Lowe, Ryan O'Hearn and Konnor Griffin, Pittsburgh's offense is much deeper this year. The lineup has also been aided by resurgent seasons from Oneil Cruz, Bryan Reynolds and Spencer Horwitz after their disappointing 2025 campaigns.

The Pirates rank fifth in batting average, third in OBP, eighth in slugging and fifth in OPS, so they've been an elite offense by other metrics, too.

Pittsburgh's lineup is a big reason why they're four games over .500 and have MLB's fifth-best run differential. Whereas the Pirates' pitching staff carried them last year, this year their offense has vaulted them into contention.
