I've heard people talk about this draft and some talk as if this draft could potentially make the team worse. In the years that I have watched this team, only one draft really made the team worse (or very little net positive impact).

The 96 draft.

The Cardinals selected Simeon Rice and Leeland McElroy with their top 2 picks. We were so tight against the cap that we had to release Clyde Simmons and Garrison Hearst.

While Simeon was better than Simmons, Hearst was better than McElroy. Since runningbacks have a great impact on any given game, I would say that overall the team wasn't as good after the draft. Simeon was a stud, but we had absolutely no running game (except for the 200 yard game by LeShon Johnson).

Even if we take Jimmy Kennedy, this team will be better. So, relax.....we WILL get better from this draft.

You would have to bring up the 1996 draft. That year they could have had Jonathan Ogden and Tony Brakkens instead of Rice & McElroy. Still irritates me, but not a lot.

Ah, but Jonathon Ogden is a great player at Left tackle, and Brackens (until the injuries caught up with him) was about as good as Simeon.

If we had drafted Ogden and Brackens, no question we would have been a better team, especially considering the fact that our o line sucked so bad.

I wanted ogden way over rice at the time of the draft...but it is not looking so lopsided now..pace seems to be always crying about his contract and his demands for a new one are almost as crazy as what simeon wanted (although simeon did get a nice deal from tampa).

I was so pissed we drafted rice...now it looks like a good pick (from a talent and production standpoint..not a good pick for the cardinals since simeon hated it here).
