Three boys basketball district champs are on the move for the next two seasons as part of new division assignments unveiled by the Ohio High School Athlete Association on Tuesday, June 30.
Waynesville will move up one division (D-IV), and Fort Recovery and Marion Local (D-VII) both move down one from the Midwest Athletic Conference.
Two girls basketball district champs also will change divisions as West Liberty-Salem goes up (D-V) and Anna moves down (D-VI).
In total, three dozen boys and girls basketball teams will be competing in a different postseason division tournament beginning next season.
Chaminade Julienne girls basketball had the largest competitive balance adjustment of area teams with 56 added to its enrollment count. It did not affect their divisional assignment as the reigning state champions will remain in Division III.
Badin’s boys team had its enrollment count bumped up by 49 but it also would have barely remained in D-III without the addition.
Competitive balance on the boys side bumped down six schools, including Anna, Fort Loramie, Graham, Marion Local, Northwestern, and Tri-County North. Dayton Christian is the only school bumped up.
On the girls side, Anna, Fort Loramie, Piqua, Shawnee and Thurgood Marshall all were moved down by CB. Bumped up are Bishop Fenwick, Covington, and Troy Christian.
The two-year enrollment cycle restarts for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 seasons.
No area basketball programs opted to move up to Division I as part of the new assignments. Notably, Lutheran East’s boys team, which has won four consecutive state championships, opted into D-I instead of its D-V assignment. They are the second school to make the move — the other being Cincinnati Elder — during the last three years the OHSAA have allowed teams to do so.
Swimming and bowling assignments were also announced Tuesday. Wrestling assignments will be announced in the Fall.
