The Ohio High School Athletic Association has announced the new divisional breakdowns for the upcoming winter sports tournaments.

The 2026-27 school year will be the first of a new two-year enrollment cycle using data provided by the Ohio Department of Education. Girls and boys basketball also goes through the OHSAA competitive balance process. More about the OHSAA’s competitive balance process is available here.

In May, schools were given the opportunity to move up to Division I. Boys wrestling divisional breakdowns will be announced in the fall.

Note that the winter sports of ice hockey, girls gymnastics and girls wrestling have one division.

Ohio boys basketball division changes​

Division I: No local teams moved up, but in a move that made statewide headlines, Cleveland Heights Lutheran East opted to move up all the way from Division V after winning the state title there in 2026.

Division II: No local teams moved up. Withrow was set to move down to Division III but stayed in DII on competitive balance.

Division III: Anderson moves down from DII on competitive balance and Edgewood moves down on enrollment.

Division IV: Taylor, Wilmington and Woodward move down from DIII due to enrollment.

Mariemont, North College Hill, Norwood and Waynesville move up from DV on enrollment.

Indian Hill was set to move up to DIII on enrollment but stays in DIV on competitive balance.

Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy was set to move down to DV on enrollment but stays in DIV on competitive balance.

Division V: Bethel-Tate, Fenwick, Gamble Montessori moved down from DIV on enrollment, and Georgetown moved up from DVI.

St. Bernard-Elmwood Place and Seven Hills were set to be in DVI on enrollment but are in DV on competitive balance. Clark Montessori was set to be in DIV on enrollment but was moved down a class.

Cincinnati College Preparatory Academy moves up from Division VII, one division due to enrollment and another on competitive balance.

DePaul Cristo Rey was set to move down to DVII on enrollment but stays in DV on competitive balance.

Division VI: Finneytown dropped from DIV on competitive balance.

Fayetteville-Perry and The School for Creative and Performing Arts moved up one class on enrollment.

Miami Valley Christian Academy was set to stay in DVII on enrollment but moves up a division on competitive balance.

Deer Park was set to move up to DV on enrollment but stays in DVI on competitive balance.

Division VII: Felicity-Franklin and Lockland move down a division on enrollment.

Ohio girls basketball division changes​

Division I: Little Miami moved up from DII due to enrollment and Mount Notre Dame opted to move up from DII.

Division II: Colerain moves down from DI. Ursuline stays in DII due to competitive balance.

Division III: Batavia, McNicholas, Mercy McAuley and the School for Creative and Performing Arts move up from DIV based on enrollment.

Purcell Marian moves up from DIV due to competitive balance.

Turpin was set to move up to DII on enrollment but stays in DIII due to competitive balance.

Division IV: New Richmond moves down from DIII due to competitive balance. Clark Montessori moves up from DV due to enrollment.

Division V: Middletown Madison and Taft move down from DIV based on enrollment, and Gamble Montessori moves down on competitive balance.

Cincinnati Christian moves up one class due to enrollment.

Cincinnati College Preparatory Academy moves up from Division VII, one division due to enrollment and another on competitive balance.

St. Bernard-Elmwood Place was set to stay in DVI but moves up to V based on competitive balance.

Division VI: Felicity-Franklin, Miami Valley Christian Academy and Oyler move up from DVII due to enrollment, and Lockland due to competitive balance.

Division VII: No schools moved down.

Ohio swimming and diving changes​

In boys swimming, Ross and La Salle moved up from Division II to DI. Monroe moved down from DI to DII.

In contrast to its boys program, Ross is the only Cincinnati girls swimming and diving team that changed divisions, moving down from Division I to Division II.

Ohio bowling changes​

In boys bowling, New Richmond is the only local school to change divisions, moving down from DI to DII.

In girls bowling, Indian Hill, McNicholas and Roger Bacon move up to Division I. No teams moved down to DII.
