I think people just can't sell themselves on the kid because he just doesn't look flashy. He is so in control and so skilled. He doesn't rely on elite athleticism to dominate, he's just the best BASKETBALL player on the floor.

I'm honestly considering that if you take Ayton, even if he is good, you might regret passing on Doncic. I think Doncic has the chance to be a generational talent because he is good at so many aspects of the game. I seriously doubt that even if Ayton becomes a superstar, that a team would regret passing on him for Doncic because Doncic is going to be very good.

Doncic might be a nice NBA player but he is not going to be a great one. Ayton and Bagley have a much higher ceiling and the Suns need to go big. The Suns can't gamble with this pick, especially if it's the first overall.

I see some mock drafts have the Suns taking Jalen Brunson or Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
with the 16th pick, which I would not mind one bit.

Look at this video for the first two minutes, keep the eye on Doncic. Assist, rebound... and at 2:15 you will see why 4/2/4. This can't happen to a college player. To be beaten by an older. There were even more such situations in this game, and for quite some time now teams are using this tactics on Doncic.

I'll give Doncic one thing, he has the highest floor in the draft. He could give his team a problem like Dragic did - playing for his national team to the detriment of his NBA performance. To be fair Dragic still played all out but his focus was still on his national team. Dirk and the Gasol brothers didn't do that. You can understand it, he's a top-of-the-heap celebrity at home while here he'll at best be one of the all stars.

Listen. It does not help the conversation by mischaracterizing what others have said and then ripping them for it. Its called a straw man argument, and it doesn't fly.

No one here has trashed him. What does trash mean anyway? Is saying he is not worthy of the number one pick when Ayton is available trashing?

I am one of the bunch here who has been somewhat critical of Doncic. But the concerns expressed here have been about his game, not his skin color. I have been concerned about his shooting percentages. That is a legit concern. His shot selection is a problem. Others have been concerned about his speed and lateral movement. That is a legit question to ask. Even then, most of us who have concerns still have us taking him in the top 4, just not necessarily with the first pick.

As far as leaving it up to the coaches, um, yes, the coaches, scouts, and mgmt make the picks. Not us. But the point of a message board is to talk about players and the draft, which is entertaining. If you are going to leave up to the coaches, why bother to post at all?

I'm concerned and his skin color is definitely a part of why I'm concerned. It's not like I'd never draft a white player or a white Euro player but I see no problem with digging deeper in these situations. History tells us it's very important. Not everything that's racial is racist.

I'm pretty sure I'll be happy with whoever we draft. I like Young and Ayton the most but I'm an amateur at this and I expect the people making the call to be armed with far more knowledge and insight than I possess.
