The Boston Bruins elected to trade away their first-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft to acquire second-line winger JJ Peterka from the Utah Mammoth.

But their work this weekend is far from done; the Bruins have seven picks remaining in the NHL Draft.

Their first selection will come in round two, No. 56 overall.

NESN reporter Sophia Jurksztowicz spoke to Bruins general manager Don Sweeney after the first round to see if she could get any details about the team's draft strategy out of him.

"Ryan (Nadeau, Director of Amateur Scouting) and the staff have done so much work over the course of the season... they're excited about tomorrow," Sweeney said. "A bunch of picks, three picks in the fourth round. So they've got this grouping of players that they hope are there.

"They're going to be likely pushing to be a little aggressive to find a guy that -- you know, maybe we move up in the second round. Because the first rounds over and everybody is like, 'Okay, we didn't pick tonight, how quickly can we get to the board in the second round?'"

Starting at pick No. 56, six of the next 100 picks belong to the Bruins. If Sweeney's scouts want to move up, they certainly have the capital to do so.

"Not to be over-aggressive, but when the opportunity presents, I think we have to look and potentially move into a spot that they're excited about," Sweeney said.
