The Miami Dolphins have found their man.

The Dolphins fired now-former head coach Mike McDaniel following the 2025 season, after the franchise finished 7-10 in his fourth year with the organization and missed the playoffs for the second straight season. Now, the Dolphins are the third of 10 franchises with openings to find their new head coach, as they announced on Monday that they would hire Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley for the role.

"I believe great things are ahead for the Miami Dolphins with Jeff Hafley leading the way," Dolphins owner Stephen M. Ross said after the going public with the hire. "Jeff is an accomplished coach with a proven track record as a leader and motivator. He has tenacity and grit, while at the same time establishing trust with his players in order to get the most out of them."

It is Hafley's first-ever chance at an NFL head coaching opportunity, after spending nine years coaching at the NFL level as an assistant – including two as a coordinator, both with the Packers. During that two-year stint, the Packers were ranked ninth in yards allowed per game, sixth in yards per play, and eighth in points allowed per game.

Hafley also served as Ohio State's defensive coordinator in 2019, and the head coach of Boston College from 2020-2023 – his only career head coaching gig, during which he finished 22-26 over four seasons. The move marks the eighth straight head coaching hire for the Dolphins with no prior head coaching experience, dating back to Dave Wannstedt, who served in the role from 2000-20004. In total, Hafley has spent over two decades coaching at both the collegiate and professional levels.
