The Miami Dolphins targeted three of their own players as extension candidates this offseason under new head coach Jeff Hafley and general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and have already given out two new deals to running back De'Von Achane and offensive lineman Aaron Brewer.
That leaves linebacker Jordyn Brooks as the lone extension candidate without a new contract, and Miami will have a big decision to make on that topic some point soon.
Brooks, 28, was a first-round pick (No. 27 overall) of the Seattle Seahawks in the 2020 NFL draft out of Texas Tech, where he earned All-Big 12 and All-American honors in his final season.
After four years in Seattle, where he led the league in tackles once, he joined the Dolphins on a three-year, $26.3 million contract in 2024, and over the last two years, he's recorded 326 tackles (24 for a loss), 10 quarterback hits, nine passes defensed, 6.5 sacks, three fumble recoveries and a forced fumble.
Brooks led the league again in tackles in 2025 and was named an All-Pro for the first time,
His current deal is set to pay him a $7.82 million base salary with $510,000 in per-game roster bonuses. He also has a $50,000 workout bonus.
If Miami were to give him an extension, they'd probably have to pay him like one of the top linebackers in the game. Fred Warner's currently the highest-paid linebacker in the league at $21 million annually, so Brooks would probably come in between $18-20 million per year.
With the Dolphins bringing in multiple linebackers in the 2026 NFL draft, they may be preparing for life without Brooks, but if they want to capitalize on his value, that would mean trading him before Week 1.
What to do with Brooks is a tough decision, but it's one that Hafley and Sullivan will have to make together in the near future.
