Miami Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan recently revealed why they traded wide receiver Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos in March.
"I was not actively shopping (Waddle)," Sullivan told the South Florida Sun Sentinel (via Dolphins Wire). "(Broncos GM George Paton) called. We had good conversations. We talked over the period of a lot of days. What became clear to me was, this was the right thing to do for the Miami Dolphins. Waddle is 27 years old. We’re in an era where the market for receivers is through the roof."
Sullivan also appeared alongside NFL analysts Mike Florio and Chris Simms to provide further details of his feelings on the trade. "Look at anybody that sits in the chair that I sit in in terms of player acquisition and roster-building — you bite your lip a little bit when you watch good players walk out the door," Sullivan said. "You'd be lying if you said otherwise... We wish (Waddle) nothing but the best."
You can see Sullivan's full comments below:
Speaking at the NFL's annual league meeting last month, Paton previously detailed the pursuit of Waddle, dating back to the 2025 trade deadline. The culmination of Paton's efforts came in the form of Waddle, at the steep price of three draft picks in the upcoming NFL draft.
Although the first-round pick that was traded was a costly price, the team firmly believes Waddle would give them a better chance to go deeper in the playoffs and reach their goal of winning a Super Bowl title. We'll soon see if their gamble will pay off.
