Over a week into training camp, the Miami Dolphins still had roughly 20 players from their 2025 roster looking for their next opportunity in the NFL.
However, that list shrunk by one on Thursday, as former Dolphins offensive lineman Kion Smith signed with the San Francisco 49ers and reunited with former teammate Robert Jones.
Smith went to Fayetteville State from 2019-20 before missing the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic and going undrafted in the 2021 NFL draft. After failing to make the Atlanta Falcons roster out of camp as a rookie, he landed with the Dolphins and spent the last five seasons in South Florida.
In Miami, Smith bounced around between the practice squad and active roster, but he appeared in 23 total games and made two starts before the Dolphins released him this June. Now, he'll have an opportunity to compete for a job in an injury-riddled 49ers offensive line room.
