If you didn’t see, Illinois 2027 defensive tackle Brayden Parks committed to Notre Dame, giving them 23 commits for the cycle.
Seven of those players are on the defensive line, and it’s not a case of quantity over quality, it’s the exact opposite. The Irish have commitments from two 5-stars (David Folorunsho and Abraham Sesay) and four 4-stars (Aidan O’Neil, Jackson Vaughn, Segun Alexander and Parks) according to a graphic shared by On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
This is a massive amount of talent headed towards South Bend, with many of them having the potential to make impacts very quickly. Sesay needs to add some weight to his 6-foot, 5-inch and 215-pound frame, but Folorunsho has a college-ready frame. O’Neil is probably a bit underrated, considering that he put up pretty good junior year stats with 7.5 sacks on a team that went 11-1 last year.
Vaughn was originally in the 2028 class as a 5-star, but when he reclassified to 2027, he dropped in the rankings. Regardless of that, he’s still one of the top players in the country. Parks could see the field early as well, he also is ready physically for the next level.
Alexander along with legacy Richie Flanigan most likely are headed for redshirt years, but in the future they could make their marks as well. Head coach Marcus Freeman and defensive line coach Charlie Partridge have done a fantastic job gathering top talent.
The question remains, is it the best defensive line class in the country? The answer most likely is yes, but as recruiting goes, stars don’t matter once the players get on campus. If the majority of them have positive impacts, this will be viewed as one of the best defensive line classes in Notre Dame history.
