The Seattle Seahawks have signed wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba to a contract extension. Could this news impact the Jacksonville Jaguars and their pursuit of Seattle wideout Jake Bobo?

For Smith-Njigba, this is a four-year deal worth $168.6 million and includes $120 million guaranteed. He is now the highest-paid wide receiver in NFL history.

This big deal for the Seahawks is one of a few that have been or could be added to their salary cap books this year. In January, offensive lineman Charles Cross was signed to a four-year, $104.4 million deal. Cornerback Devon Witherspoon is also a contract extension candidate.

What does Jaxon Smith-Njigba's deal mean for the Jaguars and Jake Bobo?

A few days ago, the Jaguars signed Bobo -- a restricted free agent -- to an offer sheet. This deal is reportedly worth $5.5 million over two years and could be worth up to $7 million with incentives.

The Seahawks now have until March 25th to match that offer, or he will become a member of the Jaguars.

This deal that the Seahawks now have to match isn't going to break the salary cap bank. However, it is likely more than they anticipated paying Bobo had the Jaguars not made an offer.

Along with Smith-Njigba, Cooper Kupp is on the roster and was paid just last offseason. The Seahawks also re-signed Rasheed Shahid to a new deal during this year's free agency.

Perhaps since Bobo's role on offense in Seattle was relatively small -- he played just 159 snaps last season -- the Seahawks may not be willing to pay what the Jaguars are, especially considering the recent investments already made at wide receiver, along with the financial commitments made at other position groups.

So, I wouldn't say the Smith-Njigba deal means that the Seahawks won't re-sign Bobo, but I don't think it hurts the Jaguars chances of landing him either.

As we discussed recently, there are a few reasons why this signing would make a lot of sense for the Jaguars.
