Even while coming off the bench for the San Antonio Spurs, Dylan Harper cemented himself as one of the best players in the 2025 NBA Draft, living up to the hype.
In his debut season, he averaged 11.8 points and was generally one of the best bench players in the NBA. In the playoffs and NBA Finals, he took a leap, emerging as perhaps the second-best player on the Spurs.
Harper knows that he's facing an uphill battle. De'Aaron Fox is still ahead of him on the depth chart, and unless the Spurs trade him, Harper will have to beat out the veteran for playing time. The youngster has his eyes set on taking a leap and eventually rivalling an all-time great.

Until Victor Wembanyama wins his first title, the Mount Rushmore of Spurs is generally agreed upon: Tim Duncan, David Robinson, Manu Ginobili, and Tony Parker.
The Mount Rushmore for the NBA as a whole is a bit more contentious, with Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Shaquille O'Neal, and Duncan all getting some praise.
Harper decided to go old-school with his version of the exercise, snubbing the Spurs in the process.
"Michael Jordan," he started. "I would say Michael Jordan and Ron Harper. I don't want to say anyone too recent, so probably Michael Jordan, Ron, and my dad, Ron Sr. And probably, I would say the last one, I mean, I would probably say a point guard, a big point guard. So like a, like a Cade Cunningham or Magic Johnson. One of the two for sure."
Instead of listing his four greatest players, he took a different approach. Jordan is his GOAT, Ron Jr. and Ron Sr., his brother and father, are his favorites, and Magic and Cunningham are his inspirations.
That seems fair.
As Harper settles into his role with the Spurs, Wembanyama might eventually get a spot on the mountain.
"He's very down-to-earth, and he's funny, man," Harper said of Wemby. "He's not who people think he is. He's got a real sense of humor, and overall he's just a good human being."
If Harper can turn into Cunningham, then the Spurs should have the best duo in the entire NBA. If Harper can become Magic, then the Spurs might just have the best duo, ever.
