The Los Angeles Dodgers have gone through a bit of a rough stretch lately, though it's not something to be overly worried about.

But, they still need to make some changes, and they did just that with a trade for a new center fielder. This deal came within the NL West.

According to Francys Romero of Beisbolfr.com, the Dodgers have traded a 17-year-old outfield prospect to the Arizona Diamondbacks for recently designated for assignment outfielder Alek Thomas.

Dodgers trade for Alek Thomas from D-Backs

"The D-back traded OF Alek Thomas to the Dodgers for Venezuelan OF Jose Requena, per sources," Romero reports.

This move for the Dodgers is an interesting one. Jose Requena is a 17-year-old outfield prospect, while Thomas has been a solid defensive center fielder and could be a left-handed hitting bat off the bench for L.A. this season.

Andy Pages is currently the starting center fielder, and he's been having a great season. Kyle Tucker is manning right field, and Teoscar Hernandez has left field on lock.

Finding a fit for Thomas will be interesting, as the new Dodgers outfielder will likely be a bench option, with one of their depth outfielders returning to the minor leagues, or someone is hitting the injured list.

While this is a fascinating addition for the Dodgers, there is one thing to note about Thomas' game: he is not a good hitter.

This season, he is hitting .181 with a .563 OPS and 56 OPS+. He's not going to be a key contributor offensively for the Dodgers, but he should factor in as a decent bench option who can play elite defense in the outfield.
