Dodgers star Freddie Freeman makes bold season prediction originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Los Angeles Dodgers superstar first baseman Freddie Freeman says that he will only miss three games this season.
The 36-year-old told ESPN's Alden Gonzalez that he will miss two games when his wife gives birth to their baby, and another the day after Los Angeles clinches the National League West division.
"I'll miss probably two games when the baby comes," Freeman said, whose wife, Chelsea, is expecting the couple's fourth child. "And then I always take the day off after we win the division, so that's three. A hundred and fifty-nine -- that's good enough, right?"
Freddie Freeman’s Availability Stands Out for Dodgers
Freeman has appeared in 626 of a possible 822 games, meaning he has been available for 76 percent of the Dodgers’ regular season contests.
The Freeman family announced in late February that they are expecting their fourth child. Freeman's wife, Chelsea, is expected to give birth around September, which is around the time the Dodgers could clinch the division.
The Dodgers have won 12 of the last 13 division titles. Los Angeles is certainly on pace to be at the top of the division as they sit with the best record in baseball at 9-3.
Freeman and the Dodgers have dominated the sport the past two seasons, winning back-to-back titles, and are favorites to win a third consecutive by a wide margin this season.
The former 2020 MVP is currently in his sixth season in Los Angeles and has been incredible despite being in his mid-30s. In his time in Tinsletown, Freeman has slashed .309/.390/.516 with an elite .906 OPS along with 99 home runs, 394 RBIs and a 151 OPS+ in 2,757 plate appearances.
