The Los Angeles Dodgers continue to stay red hot.
Catapulted by a four-run seventh inning, Los Angeles secures their 18th come-from-behind win with a 5-3 victory against the Colorado Rockies.
With the win, the Dodgers have won 10 of their last 12 games.
It was a rather eventful outing for Dodgers 26-year-old right-hander Emmet Sheehan.
Sheehan was off to a solid start in his Monday night outing against Colorado, recording three straight scoreless innings. The velocity stayed consistent — a fluctuating pattern he's dealt with all year — but it all came to a head in the fourth inning.
After giving up a leadoff double to Tyler Freeman, Sheehan was struck by a 103.8 mph comebacker that hit his bicep area on his pitching arm from Troy Johnston.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and Co. stepped up to the mound to check in on their starter, but Sheehan pleaded his case to stay in the game.
After the discourse on the mound, Willi Castro greeted Sheehan back by slashing an RBI single to right field, tying the ballgame.
Ezequiel Tovar followed that up with a sacrifice fly to Teoscar Hernandez that gave the Rockies their first lead of the game.
That quick meltdown of runs prompted yet another mound visit from Roberts.
Sheehan pleaded his case and won the back-and-forth for a second time.
From then on, Sheehan bounced back.
He managed to rack up eight strikeouts through six innings and retired the last eight of nine hitters he faced on 92 pitches.
Kyle Hurt came in to kick off the seventh inning, but was ambushed by a Tovar leadoff home run.
That not only snapped Hurt's 14-inning scoreless streak, but the entirety of the Dodgers' bullpen scoreless streak.
The streak ends at 38 scoreless innings.
Kiké Hernández, who was making his season debut after being recalled from the Injured List, greeted the fans at Dodger Stadium accordingly with an RBI double in the bottom of the third that gave Los Angeles their first lead of the ballgame.
Heading into the seventh inning, the Dodgers found themselves down a 3-1 deficit.
In the blink of an eye, Shohei Ohtani found himself with the bases loaded and none out.
Ohtani was called safe at first following a Rockies' failed double play attempt. That inched them within one until Mookie Betts hit a sacrifice fly to tie the ballgame.
The doubles' machine himself, Freddie Freeman, hit a rocket of a hit to the right-field cage for an RBI double that allowed Hernández to score easily and retake the lead.
Andy Pages put the final touches on the late comeback, registering his 46th RBI of the season on an RBI single.
With the win, the Dodgers improve to 34-20 and take the series opener.
Looking ahead to Tuesday night, newly planted starter Eric Lauer makes his Dodgers debut in hopes of taking the series.
