ANAHEIM, CA - MAY 17: Emmet Sheehan #80 of the Los Angeles Dodgers warms up in the outfield prior to the game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium of Anaheim on Sunday, May 17, 2026 in Anaheim, California. Emmet Sheehan will do something no Dodgers pitcher has done yet in 2026 on Tuesday night against the San Diego Padres at Petco Park. Sheehan will start on four days rest.
Sheehan last pitched last Thursday, with six strikeouts and just two runs allowed in six innings in a win over the San Francisco Giants. He starts the middle game instead of the Padres because the Dodgers flipped him with Shohei Ohtani, who will instead start on Wednesday, the day before a scheduled off day, as the team finds ways to get pockets of rest for the two-way star.
This is Sheehan’s first career game at Petco Park, and his second start against the Padres.
Griffin Canning gets the ball for San Diego, making his fourth start of the season after missing the first five weeks while recovering from last year’s left achilles surgery. The veteran right-hander from UCLA allowed one run and struck out seven in five innings in his first start, on May 3. But he allowed six runs in each of his last two starts, including in just 1 2/3 innings last Wednesday on the road against the Milwaukee Brewers.
