The Los Angeles Dodgers lost their fourth consecutive game on Monday, losing the first game in a three-game set against the Chicago Cubs.
LA got things started early, taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning before Cubs starter Matthew Boyd could record an out. Shohei Ohtani and Andy Pages both singled to lead off the first inning, and Tommy Edman took advantage of the first pitch he saw, hitting it over the fence for his third bomb of the year.
It didn’t take long for the Cubs to pull themselves back into the game, though, as Seiya Suzuki hit a home run of his own in the bottom of the first to make the score 3-2. The Cubs went on to take the lead in the following inning, as No. 9 hitter Kevin Alcantara hit a two-run home run shortly after crushing a ball which narrowly crept foul.
The Cubs extended their lead in the bottom of the third inning, as catcher Carson Kelly hit the hosts’ third two-run home of the game to make the score 6-3.
LA began chipping away at the deficit in the top of the fourth, as a two-out single from Eliézer Alfonzo brought home Kyle Tucker to make the score 6-4.
Unfortunately, the Dodgers couldn’t keep their lead, as former Dodger Michael Busch hit a home run to restore the Cubs’ three-run lead. Busch’s homer only traveled 381 feet on its way over the left-center field wall, and Wrigley Field is the only ballpark in which it would have been a home run.
Starter Justin Wrobleski left the game after allowing the fourth home run, finishing his evening with a line of 4.1 innings pitched with seven earned runs on seven hits and three walks with four strikeouts. Monday’s start marked the second game in a row in which Wrobleski allowed four home runs after allowing eight in his other 17 appearances combined.

The Dodgers stole their run back in the top of the sixth inning, as Teoscar Hernández hit a 443-foot homer which landed outside of the stadium, well beyond the seats in left field.
Chicago put the game out of reach in the bottom of the sixth, though, as a single and three consecutive walks loaded the bases after Dansby Swanson got caught stealing. Tanner Scott got a clutch strikeout, nearly getting LA out of the inning, but walked the following batter and allowed a two-run single to make the score 10-5.
The Dodgers went down in order in the following two innings, and didn’t put up much of a fight in the ninth as they lost the first game of the series. LA will look to get back on track in Tuesday’s game, which marks Tarik Skubal’s debut with the Dodgers. First pitch for Tuesday’s game comes at 5:05 p.m. PT.
