The Los Angeles Dodgers will not have Max Muncy on Friday vs. the Los Angeles Angels, but they seemed to have dodged the worst of a scary collision.

Muncy hit a ground ball and ran down the first base line hard, trying to beat it out in the fifth inning of Thursday’s series finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

While running, Muncy chose to take the inside line, assuming first baseman Ildemaro Vargas would go on the outside, but the defender went in the same lane, and they had a big collision.

They were both down for a while, leaving the game after the moment.

According to Dave Roberts, Muncy will sit on Friday, which was always the plan. Muncy has been nursing a wrist injury from a hit by a pitch dating back more than a week, and he was set to get some rest on Friday to make sure he stays upright.

However, after the collision, he will naturally have a rest day to get him back on his feet and ensure he can play on Saturday and Sunday.

Muncy was revealed to be suffering from a possible concussion and a loss of breath. However, the third baseman was luckily able to speak to reporters.

“I saw the pitcher didn’t get off the mound, and I saw he fielded it kind of running backward. So, busting it hard out of the box, as I’m running down the line, I saw him in foul territory,” Muncy said.

“So I got to the inside of the bag, and I thought he was going to stay on that side. It felt like neither of us knew which direction we were going to go, and then we both went the wrong direction.

“And, yeah, bang. Obviously, I really hope Vargas is OK. I sent something over to him, hoping he’s doing all right and that it’s not too bad.

“But it was just a bad situation where it looked like neither of us knew which direction to go.”

Muncy will be missed on Friday for the Freeway Series opener vs. the Angels, but with the worst-case scenario avoided, the Dodgers will certainly take one game over weeks of missed action.
