The Los Angeles Dodgers dropped the first game of their series against the San Diego Padres on Friday in a frustrating 7-1 loss.
Despite a solo home run by Mookie Betts, the Dodgers again failed to convert with runners in scoring position, including with bases loaded and one out in the top of the sixth inning.
Overall, the Dodgers were 0-for-4 with RISP, stranding six runners in the process.
The score remained within reach for much of the game, but a late offensive flurry for the Padres buried any hopes of a comeback.
How did Roki Sasaki do?
Sasaki (3-5) got the loss, going four innings and allowed three hits and three earned runs. He also struck out two batters and walked five.

Jonathan Hernandez ended up giving up four more earned runs in the eighth inning.
In contrast to Sasaki’s struggles, former Dodger Walker Buehler was mostly excellent, allowing on earned run in 5.1 innings of work. He struck out five batters, walked three and allowed only three hits.
The Padres bullpen was also excellent, allowing a handful of hits but only walking one batter.
Who led the Dodgers offensively?
Mookie Betts’ solo home run in the top of the second inning was the Dodgers’ lone run.
Freddie Freeman hit 2-for-3 with a walk, the only Dodger with more than one hit.
What’s next for the Dodgers?
The Dodgers (52-30) and Padres (43-37) will play again on Saturday, with first pitch set for 5:40 p.m.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto (7-5, 2.65 ERA, 86 SO) is on the mound for the Dodgers, while Randy Vásquez is pitching for the Padres (6-5, 4.17 ERA, 59 SO).
