The Los Angele Dodgers moved lefty Blake Snell to the 60-day injured list before their series opener against the Philadelphia Phillies, making room for the return of Santiago Espinal.

The move came less than two weeks after he underwent the “Skubalscope” surgery that many have been touting for loose bodies in an elbow.

The procedure involves a NanoNeedle Scope, which is less invasive and should allow for a faster recovery.

Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal underwent the procedure and is looking at a drastically quicker recovery timeline, with him throwing a bullpen session weeks after going through it.

The hope for Snell, who has only made one start this season, was that he would be able to return sooner than the three months it typically takes to recover, a timeline that Edwin Diaz is looking at as he recovers from a similar injury.

However, the Snell can now return no earlier than July 10th, three days before the All-Star break, after being put on the 60-day injured list.

Dave Roberts has already mentioned that Snell’s surgery went well, citing no reason to be worried.

“It went well. As well as to be expected,” manager Dave Roberts said about Snell’s surgery. “I guess the nano thing was a good thing, obviously. So the recovery is cut much shorter. I don’t have a timeline. I just know that it’s shorter than what we initially anticipated.”

When could Snell return?

Honestly, he will likely return to pitching in the majors in late July or August, especially since the Dodgers have the depth to give him a full rehabilitation stint in the minors.

Snell will get as much time as possible to avoid an injury down the line. He got a bit of a rushed minor league build-up after Tyler Glasnow got injured, though he will get a regular workload to ease him back in this time around.

Also, it allows him more than a month to get his bearings as a starter and sharpen up for the postseason.
