The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed infielder Keston Hiura to a minor league contract with an invite to Major League spring training, reports the New York Post's Jon Heyman.
Hiura, 29, was the ninth overall selection in the 2017 MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers. He hit .303/.368/.570 with 19 home runs and posted a .938 OPS in 84 games his rookie season in 2019, but hasn't managed to replicate that production since.
He's appeared in just 218 Major League games since his rookie campaign, including a 10-game stint in 2024 with the Los Angeles Angels and an eight-game stint in 2025 with the Colorado Rockies. Hiura's main positions include second and first base, but he also has 40.1 innings of experience in left field.
Hiura's path to playing time with Dodgers
Utilityman **** Hernandez re-signed with the Dodgers on Thursday, leaving Hiura with no choice but to have an exceptional spring training if he wants to break camp with the back-to-back World Series champions.
Spring training is unique in that other clubs' scouts are always watching, and another team in need of a veteran could give Hiura an opportunity if the Dodgers cut him loose. Otherwise, he's a candidate to open the season at Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Heading into the 2018 season, MLB Pipeline ranked Hiura as Milwaukee's top prospect, ahead of Corbin Burnes and Brandon Woodruff.
