Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani's trajectory toward a three-peat should not surprise anyone originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have a star-studded roster, but only one player draws more attention than the rest. Shohei Ohtani is changing the way that baseball is played, and Major League Baseball is rewarding him for it.

As we end the month of May, and with the unofficial start to Summer beginning with Memorial Day, Ohtani is leading the way in the National League. The Dodgers' two-way star is leading the pack, according to a recent ranking by Bradford Doolittle of ESPN.

With an AXE rating of 150.2, he is far and away in the lead of the NL MVP race. Behind him are Arizona Diamondbacks right fielder Corbin Carroll and Jordan Walker, the standout from the St. Louis Cardinals.

All the way back in the seventh spot, with an AXE rating of 129.2, which is higher than New York Yankees superstar Aaron Judge on the American League side, is Dodgers' centerfielder Andy Pages. Pages has been electrifying, and it should not be a surprise for him to finish in the top-3 of the voting at the end of this season.

Ohtani is very likely to continue this spectacle of a season, both at the plate and on the mound. There is a very good chance that he could sweep the floor of the Award ceremony with an MVP and Cy Young award, which has only happened twice since 1992.

What is going to make this even sweeter for Ohtani and Dodgers fans everywhere is if he can help catapult them to a three-peat in World Series victories.
