Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Michael Kopech is trying to work his way back to the big leagues following an injury.
Thursday night, the 29-year-old made his first rehab start for Triple-A Oklahoma City, and it didn't exactly go as planned.
Kopech walked all five batters he faced.
His final line? 23 pitches, three strikes, two earned runs and five walks.
After ending his 2024 campaign with right forearm inflammation, Kopech reported to spring training this season behind in his throwing program. He was then placed on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder impingement.
On May 1, he was transferred to the 60-day IL. in order for the Dodgers to make room for newcomers J.P. Feyereisen and Ryan Loutos.

"Michael is going to be going out on rehab next week,” manager Dave Roberts told reporters last week. “He’s already thrown a live session in Arizona. He’ll throw another one on Monday. I think next Thursday he’s [going to] go on rehab."
A first-round selection by the Boston Red Sox in 2014, Kopech was playing for the Chicago White Sox last July when he - along with St. Louis Cardinals utilityman Tommy Edman - was dealt to the Dodgers in a three-team trade.
The reliever finished the 2024 season going 4-0 with a 1.13 ERA and 0.79 WHIP. He was six-of-six in save chances, and registered 29 punch outs in 24 innings.
Kopech carried that success over during the Dodgers World Series run. He was 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA and 10 strikeouts in nine postseason innings.
As far as when Kopech could be recalled? Per MLB.com writer Sonja Chen, Roberts said he expects Kopech to make at least 4-5 rehab outings, "and then it's a real conversation."
