Dodgers' 'deep' farm system makes them favorites in Tarik Skubal sweepstakes originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
As champions of back-to-back World Series titles, the Los Angeles Dodgers do not need much more help to contend in 2026.
But the NL West club is always aggressive, making moves and spending money like no other team in baseball.
What makes the Dodgers a threat to widen the gap between themselves and the remainder of the National League is their strong farm system. This could come in handy at the trade deadline, writes The Athletic's Jim Bowden.
Bowden ranked the Dodgers as the club that could offer the Detroit Tigers the best trade package for superstar left-hander Tarik Skubal.
"The Dodgers have a deep farm system, which would make it easier for them to offer the Tigers a premium prospect package without decimating their minor-league depth," Bowden wrote.
As of Monday, the Tigers have the worst record in the AL, as Skubal rehabs from surgery to remove loose bodies in his throwing elbow.

"The Dodgers are especially deep in outfield prospects, and the Tigers could insist on one of their top ones among the group of Zyhir Hope, Josue De Paula, Eduardo Quintero, James Tibbs III, and Mike Sirota, and then combine that with one of their major-league starting pitchers in Emmet Sheehan or Justin Wrobleski," Bowden added.
With the Tigers trending in the wrong direction, the most logical decision to make with Skubal would be to trade him, especially if Detroit's front office knows he won't return in free agency.
There's no doubt the Dodgers will be involved in the sweepstakes in some capacity.
