The Los Angeles Dodgers are set to make MLB history in the next three games against the Cleveland Guardians. The back-to-back World Series champions will become the first team to start a Japanese-born pitcher in three consecutive games.

Roki Sasaki made his season debut on the mound in the series opener against the Guardians on Monday at Dodger Stadium. He gave up just one run and struck out four batters in four innings, which is much better than the 15.58 ERA he posted in four spring starts.

Two-way superstar and defending National League Most Valuable Player Shohei Ohtani will start on Tuesday night. This will also be Ohtani’s first start of the season. Then, reigning World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto will make his second start of the 2026 season on Wednesday to close out the series.

Ohtani and Yamamoto spent some time away from the Dodgers to represent Team Japan in the 2026 World Baseball Classic. Ohtani did not pitch during the WBC but posted a 3.24 ERA in two starts in the Cactus League.

Yamamoto was the Dodgers’ Opening Day starter against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He gave up five hits, two runs and home run while striking out six batters in six innings.
