Do you realize Edge is the same age as LT...Just a thought.

LT didn't have a major injury his 2nd year in the league like Edge did. IMO if not for that injury Edge would be considered every bit as good or very very close to LT overall. He hasn't been the same since then. He lost that 2nd gear.

If it wasn't for that injury its safe to say Edge would be at 13,000 yard rushing right now. With 2,300 yards rushing between this year and next combined he'd pass Barry Sanders for 3rd all time!

Its amazing how having a kickass runblocking line makes a player seem better than they are. Tomlinson would struggle to find holes in our oline.

Edge would probably have a ton of GOAT talk by now had he signed with SD and not here. (Not saying it would've happened, they had no need for him.. But you know.)

I don't think that's probably true. LDT isn't only a great rusher, but he has breakaway ability that Edge hasn't had in a long time. Also, LDT has caught 100 passes in a season; he's a great receiver, and he's also thrown 5 or 6 TDs.

If anything, this thread should be a reminder (to fantasy owners, at least) that LDT is going to start slowing down soon and maybe pick up Hester. LDT was a great player on some truly dreadful teams where he was the only focus of opposing defenses. Despite that, he managed to get 1200 yards a season.

LT = Lawrence Taylor to me. Always will. Read the thread title & thought, "Oh, hell...no WAY"

took me a minute to catch up.

Yeah, I guess the difference could be blocking or Edge's old injury. Or, it could be that LT is just better than Edge.

I am still pissed that we were 1 pick from being able to get Champ Bailey. I still think that had the Colts taken Williams, the Cards may have gotten James.

no, same age equate to same ability. at the very least it equates to same rate of deterioration and decline in skills. in equates to something . . . oh yeah, similar number of days on this planet and nothing more.

ponder.

you mean that kickass O-line of the 1-15 team that drafted him and he went on to win the NFL rookie of the year award with over 1250 yards? Or was it when he played on a team that was 4-12 and had an awful offense and still ran for over 1600 yards? LT wouldn't struggle to do anything behind our line. Dude's just that much of a stud that he, like Barry Sanders and Walter Peyton made their lines better than what was in front of them. Does he have a good O-line now? Yeah, but he was still gashing the yards even when the Chargers flat out sucked, getting the number 1 pick in the draft twice during his time there.

Oh, and they're not the same age. Edge is a year (11 months) older than LT.

Give some credit to then new OC Norv Turner, Marty Schottenheimer, and Lorenzo Neal's blocking too. :)

I will believe that Edge is as deteriorated and slow as everyone says he is when the Cardinals have a lead 21-0 and hand off to him 10 times in the 3rd quarter and he doesn't shine. He has not been given a chance to close games in a methodical way because we haven't had the lead much. Give him a chance to run in a better situation & close games like he did for the Colts. I still don't understand why Dennis Green paid Edge all that money to stand around and pass block in obvious running situations. But I'm glad we have him now.

(I am not talking about stats and run vs. pass ratio but specific situations over the last 2 seasons where a run for positive yards instead of an ill-advised pass play call could have made an immense difference in the outcome and possibly given Edge a spark to get rolling. Just think...Cardinal history might have been forever changed if Fat Greeny would have thought, "We are up 20 to 0 on a weak offensive team with a great defense. I think I will HAND THE BALL TO OUR FAMOUS EXPENSIVE NEW RB THAT WE HIRED EXCLUSIVELY FOR THIS EXACT SITUATION." Maybe he would still have a job and "Who we thought they were" wouldn't be a laugh-it-up catchphrase.)

Shadow--Isn't that exactly what Green did two years ago on Monday night against the Bears? Edge was terrible in that situation.

Granted, he was running against nine-man fronts and was essentially running over and over up the back of Reggie Wells, but that's the exact situation that you outlined.

Not only did Edge not get 1st downs and kill clock, but he also coughed up the ball that gave up the lead.

I love Edge, but let's not pretend he's something that he's not. No one is saying that Edge can't get the job done--I was one of the people that hoped the Cards wouldn't cut him this offseason. But he doesn't threaten defenses anymore, and he can't get the 30+ yard run that scares opposition safeties.

His forward motion had stopped, and that fumble was BS.

Also, that was the worst example of playcalling I have EVER seen. That right there may have gotten Whiz the job, as he was known as a good playcaller.

Allegedly. Forward progress should have been called...I still contend. Urlacher was allowed to rip and pull on a guy who was stood up at a standstill. Egregious.

Was just going to post the same thing Donald, not only was it not a fumble Edge was running behind the worst Oline in the league and with ridiculous play calling from Green. Edge has been the best back we have had here in over a decade!!
