It was quite the sprint day for the Wilson Bulldogs on Saturday.

Wilson sprinters won the Class 3A 100- and 200-meter dashes at the District 3 Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg University as the two-day meet wrapped up under clear skies, but windy conditions at times.

Bulldogs sophomore Damin Greer won the 100 in 10.67 with his teammate Jaiden Carpenter third in 10.78. Carpenter then won the 200 in 22.27, running into a stiff wind.

The Wilson duo were the only Berks athletes to win gold medals in 3A, but county athletes won seven events in the 2A competition, led by Oley Valley senior Ryan Gourley won won the 3200-meter run on Friday and then anchored Oley’s winning 4 x 800 relay team on Saturday.

Gourley won the 3200 in 9:25.35 and then anchored the relay victory in 1:58.81 in the first running event on Saturday. He then finished second in the 1600 in 4:20.85 and wrapped up his busy two days by running a leg on Oley’s 4 x 400 relay team which finished second, meaning Gourley, if he runs on the relays, can compete in four events at the state meet this coming weekend.

Oley Valley had two other champions in Aspen Freed in the 110 (14.82) and Jacob Mackie in the pole vault (15-6¼).

Brandywine Heights junior Jon Shuey was the only runner on the day to break 49 seconds in the 400-meter dash, winning the 2A title in 48.97.

The other 2A champions from Berks were Wyomissing’s Chase Eisenhower in the javelin (170-1) and the Spartans’ Brady Eisenhower in the 300 hurdles (40.48). Brady Eisenhower also qualified for the state meet in the 110 hurdles, finishing second to Freed in 15.25.

The top five finishers in 3A qualified for the PIAA Championships Friday and Saturday at Shippensburg University with sixth through eighth place also advancing if they bettered the state qualifying standard.

In 2A, the top two finishers advanced with third through eighth moving on if they bettered the state standard.
